The Rabbit's Foot Fern
Many plants thrive in our living walls but perhaps one of our favorite is the Rabbit’s Foot Fern. The Rabbit’s Foot fern gets its name from the furry roots, rhizomes, that grow out of the soil and cascade down the side of the pot. Rhizomes not only add personality to the plant but aide the fern in obtaining moisture and nutrient from its environment. Growing this fern in living wall is ideal as the roots tend to grow quite long and the “pots” of the cascades allow plenty of hanging room for them to grew.
Rabbit’s Foot ferns do well in bright indirect light as direct light can dry out the soil. It is best to place near east or north facing window. Rabbit’s Foot should be watered once a week to keep the soil slightly moist. If possible, supply the fern with fertilizer every two weeks.
